A Historical Indictment: Jose Lebrón’s 1976 Autopsy of the Polich-Page Method

This summer marks 50 years since Wendel Polich formally presented his method of celestial partitioning. For decades, practitioners of the Polich-Page (“Topocentric”) system have operated under the illusion that they are utilising a hyper-precise, physically grounded framework of spatial coordinates. In reality, they are employing a mathematically manipulated version of the natural Ptolemaic/Placidian calculation, with small margins of error deliberately introduced.

This manipulation was expressly designed to serve a fundamental epistemological fallacy: the absurd premise that the macroscopic spatiotemporal geometry of the celestial sphere can and must be reverse-engineered and warped in order to perfectly align with the microscopic, chaotic biological events of a human biography.[1]

The mathematical and presupposed empirical collapse of this system is not a contemporary revelation. It was formally audited and systematically dismantled in the Summer 1976 issue of the Astrological Journal (Vol. XVIII, No. 3) by José Lebrón—Wendel Polich’s own translator, editor, and publisher.

What follows constitutes Lebrón’s official autopsy of this methodology, pinpointing the exact junctures at which Polich deliberately abandoned physical reality. His objective was to present a mathematically erroneous iteration of the Placidian method (a framework Polich persistently invoked throughout his own work), justified entirely by the claim that empirical practice validated the coordinates. These, however, were nothing more than biographical confirmation biases—connections which, as Lebrón officially attests (p. 109), never actually existed.

Count 1: The Ad Hoc Geometric Fabrication (Page 109)

• Citation: When challenged by Wilhelm Knappich to provide a mathematical demonstration linking his formula to the physical celestial sphere, Polich failed. Lebrón writes that it became his unpleasant duty to perform a counter-demonstration, “showing that the propounded procedure was in fact strictly ad hoc, i.e., it could not be applied to other cases and was therefore invalid.” Lebrón concludes: “there is no proof whatsoever that the formula for the topocentric pole originates in a ‘pure topocentric sphere’ […]”.

• Ruling: An ad hoc procedure refers to statistical curve-fitting—fabricating a math equation solely to justify a predetermined answer. Lebrón officially confesses that the foundational geometry of the system does not actually exist in physical, topocentric space, as we demonstrated in The Phantom Cone. Polich reverse-engineered a formula to force his desired results and falsely presented it as a discovery, all while continuing to deliver the exact same Ascendant and Midheaven as any other partitioning method, given that he systematically discarded true topocentric variables such as parallax and atmospheric refraction.

Count 2: The Circumpolar Collapse and the “Pretense” of Theory (Pages 109-110)

• Citation: Tracking the mathematical behaviour of the system at higher latitudes, Lebrón documents, as did others, a catastrophic geometric failure near the Polar Circle, noting that the coordinate frame distorts so violently that “the Ascendant falls into the 3rd house!” [2] Lebrón subsequently delivers his ultimate verdict on the system’s architecture: “Deeper research is needed, because it is not the poles that fail, but rather the theory that pretends to account for them.”

• Ruling: Because Polich utilised flat, planar equations on a spherical celestial body, the mathematics disintegrate at higher latitudes. By categorising the underlying theory as a “pretense,” Polich’s own editor formally indicted the system as a geometric charade that masquerades as astrometric law. Count 3: Chronometric Illiteracy and Data Manipulation (Page 111)

• Citation: Lebrón attacks the creator’s basic competence in astronomical physics, noting Polich’s “juggling with figures” and stating: “I regret to say that he shows a rather inadequate idea of what Ephemeris Time, Universal Time and their difference (Delta T) really are. This leads him into meaningless calculations […]”

• Ruling: Any astrometric coordinate system demands absolute precision in timekeeping. Lebrón publicly exposes that the architect of this purportedly “exact” system did not understand the fundamental difference between rotational time and dynamical time, stripping his highly specific transit calculations of all scientific validity.

Count 4: The Fraud of Empirical “Connexions” (Page 111)

• Citation: Polich attempted to empirically validate his algebra by claiming it proved “Genealogical Connexions”—asserting that family members shared exact 0° 00’ 00” ascensional links. After auditing Polich’s primary example, Lebrón issues a devastating correction: “I shall limit myself to say that not even one of those connexions exists in the example case, and that the procedure is unintelligible.”

• Ruling: This constitutes the historical smoking gun of data dredging (p-hacking). The foundational “inductive process” used to sell the precision of this system to the astrological community was audited by its own publisher and found to be entirely fabricated. The exact geometric correlations claimed by Polich simply did not exist, and his mathematical procedure to attain them was deemed incoherent—an assessment later echoed by both Hand and Wackford, amongst others.

Count 5: The Placidian Plagiarism (Hand and Wackford)

• Citation: In his rigorous mathematical review, Michael Wackford built upon Robert Hand’s earlier assessment that the Topocentric system is governed by an “artificial mathematical nature” (Essays on Astrology, 1982). Wackford mathematically exposed the structural absurdity known as the “mesh”—a phenomenon where Topocentric house lines fail in their attempt to simulate the geometry of Regiomontanus, only to converge at a single pole on the celestial sphere, instead crossing each other to form a chaotic network. Furthermore, Wackford highlights Lebrón’s devastating summary of Polich’s overarching methodology: “if the facts get in the way of [Polich’s] theories, then to hell with the facts”.

• Ruling: Because the system improperly applies conical calculations to a sphere (see our exhaustive deconstruction in The Phantom Cone: An Algebraic Maze Built to Hide a Natural Clock), it engenders a fractured geometry where an ecliptic degree or planet can mathematically occupy up to three houses simultaneously, and, in polar latitudes, the Ascendant would fall into the third house.[3] Wackford formally demonstrated (The Astrological Journal, 1994) that reversing the Topocentric pole formula reproduces standard Placidian cusps (a natural calculation) almost exactly. Consequently, the system does not constitute a discovery, but rather a trigonometric subterfuge; it is “topocentric in name only,” utilizing standard geocentric coordinates while actively ignoring true topocentric imperatives such as parallax. In other words, the method is reduced to a Placidian plagiarism with deliberate margins of error, shamelessly presented as a true mathematical “refinement” of Placidus.

Conclusion

Human biological and sociological events do not dictate the macroscopic spatial coordinates of the celestial sphere—neither in the formulation of the Polich-Page method nor any other. To believe otherwise, and to assume that an “inductive process” can successfully reverse-engineer celestial mechanics from biological milestones, is to succumb to a profound epistemological delusion.

It is therefore no surprise that—as corroborated by the archival testimonies of Lebrón, Hand, and Wackford—the physical geometry is a fabrication, the calculations are meaningless, and the empirical validations were manufactured.

[1] It ignores the foundational law of all observational sciences: measurement must strictly precede interpretation. [2] To understand the severity of this geometric fracture, one must observe the natural kinematics of the celestial sphere at extreme latitudes. During the midnight sun or midday twilight, the ecliptic ascends parallel to the local horizon. In a structurally intact, genuine, non-linear spatiotemporal system (Placidus), this physical reality results in the ephemeral conjunction of the primary axes: the Ascendant naturally merges with the Meridian (the MC/10th or the IC/4th). In the natural world, the Ascendant would never fall into the 3rd house. The reason Lebrón and Wackford observe the Ascendant collapsing into the 3rd house is precisely because they are not witnessing a natural kinematic phenomenon. Rather, they are observing the catastrophic magnification of Polich’s deliberate margins of error. By mathematically manipulating the Placidian calculation to fabricate a “new” spatial discovery, Polich introduced an artificial algebraic distortion (the linear tangent vector). Whilst this geometric forgery remains dormant at lower latitudes, it shatters under spherical stress near the poles. The artificial margins of error magnify so violently that the coordinate lines “mesh” and invert their topological sequence—forcing the Ascendant to artificially drop into the 3rd house rather than allowing its natural, physical conjunction with the 4th. Only in this way it be legitimately maintained that a planet “falls in three houses simultaneously.”
